Rooted in a Community

I grew up in a small town with a strong sense of community, surrounded by people of all ages, where plain language pays an important role.
That’s where I quickly discovered that a well-told story, marked with plain language, can connect, inform, and inspire.

Plain Language As Used by Entrepreneurs

But besides the community, my parents taught me through their own business, that plain language is the key to have informed clients. They set a great example along the way.

Communication was always key and they showed me plain language isn’t just professional—it’s personal.

Early Connection to Healthcare

My regular visits to hospitals also proved that talking to patients requires a specific gift—being clear without losing empathy.

As my father is a paraplegic, the experience of regularly not understanding scientific conversations taught me the importance of clarity, empathy and accuracy when communicating in medical contexts.

Where Everything Comes Together

Today, my job is to combine these worlds and help healthcare businesses craft content with plain language that:

  • Converts people without being intrusive
  • Provides patients with clear, compassionate information
  • Builds trust between professionals and their audience

With the right team work and dialogue, we can build a relationship based on honesty and transparency. And then, we can create ethic and user-friendly content that sells organically with the power of storytelling.

A podcast hosted by Rita Gonçalves with colleagues from all over the world about language services. On this episode, Melanie, Carolina and I talked about getting started as a freelancer right after graduating university.

Speaker at APTRAD

On this session I was able to share with different colleagues how to enter the market of translation and reach new clients.

The session was online and had around 50 people present.

We also talked about the importante of being clear and using plain language to reach new and potential clients, and how to use social media to expand the business.
